Yes, sometimes there are even people (and monkeys) in my photos!

I have no idea who these kids were but they looked like they'd stepped out of a 70s kids TV show.

So on Friday we went to Sydney and went to the Mu Meson Archive to watch a cheerful doco about the history of eugenics (not something we picked, just happened to be what was on). The features were all amusing 1950s/60s "sex ed" films. I rather like their "new" digs off Parramatta Rd (I hadn't visited since the more out of Erskineville). Afterward we hung around the Townie and had beers with Bad Pauly and [info]_blubloo_.

More road trips to Mu Meson film nights are highly desired. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZYXVPfrVdyc

Chooks are happy, Patricia has stopped hanging out with us and is enjoying being in a flock.

I keep thinking my back is healed up and they go and do something dumb like pick up a flowerpot, then it hurts again like **** for several days so I'm laying off now.

I also wonder if the Labor Party is having a sweeps to see how many personally repugnant things they can get Peter Garrett to do before he has a tantrum, like some cheesy 1908s college prank film.

I can't seem to decide what is best, so I come to you guys for advice.

I'm working cuff down on a sock with a cabled leg. The pattern said to CO 72 sts, but I found the leg wasn't stretchy enough for me with the cables, so I frogged and CO 84 instead, which worked out great.

Now when I get to the heel, the pattern of course says to divide for 72, using 35 for the heel and 37 on spare dpns for the instep.

Should I still use 35 for the heel, and the rest of my sts for the instep, or should I use 41 for the heel and 43 for the instep, since I CO more than I was "supposed to"?

For some reason I can't picture which would be best, or if it would even matter.

Thanks in advance!

So, I am making a pair of socks, and loosely following the instructions given in silver's sock class., only I have 8 more stitches than the pattern calls for. I did the first row of turning the heel, p20, p2together, p1, turn. The next part of the instructions read as follows:

Slip the first stitch (from the stitches you just purled, not the stitches left on the right needle).
Knit 5 stitches.
Knit the next 2 together. (See pic and instructions below.)
Knit one more stitch.
Turn your work.

And so on. Given that my heel has 4 more stitches than the instructions call for, how many stitches should I knit in this second row?

Instructions are here http://www.cometosilver.com/socks/SockClass_Heel2.htm

What would be a good scarf pattern for yarn like this (goes from thick to thin)?
http://www.lionbrand.com/yarns/woolspun.htm

I've tried a few different things, but the patterns just get lost in the yarn. I've also tried stockinette, which looks okay, but I'd prefer to do something more interesting.

Oh & I'm looking for something free and posted online please.

I'm currently working on the Flower Basket Shawl and have a lifeline question. Basically, it comes down to this: unwaxed dental floss is darned near impossible to find where I am. And I have a feeling I might have left the floss I was using at relatives the last time I worked on the shawl. (And it was the last pack at the store where I found it.)

I've been putting off continuing on the shawl until I find more. Except I was looking through the latest Knit Picks catalog and there they suggested using waxed dental floss. Oh, the possibilities! Wal-Mart, Walgreens, Target, the supermarket, they all have waxed dental floss. (That said, the minty flavored waxed options still far outnumbers plain waxed, but I draw the line at my lace being minty fresh.)

Only I'm not certain where I got it in my head that unwaxed was better. But it kinda makes sense to me, though that doesn't mean it's right. Has anyone here used waxed dental floss for lifelines? Or what else have you used? (I'm considering heavy duty sewing thread as another option.)

hi all,

I've been pattern-less random sock-making again.
I bought some Wendy brand "Happy" bamboo/acrylic yarn on holiday a few weeks back, and it was great to work with. Aquarius colourway is also very pretty :)
